Absentee Voting Information

In-state students

Most in-state students assume that they’ll just vote by absentee ballot while they’re away at college. In most cases, however, this isn’t possible!

To be eligible for absentee ballot, students must have interacted with a City or State registration official in person. The most common examples include (but are not limited to):

  • Voting in person in a previous election
  • Registering to vote at the Secretary of State’s Office (not a mobile unit)
  • Requesting an absentee ballot at the Secretary of State’s Office, or the City Clerk’s office

Out-of-state students

Out-of-state students should consult with their Secretary of State or State Election Office to better understand what is necessary to qualify for absentee voting.
